A question which was posed by Felix Hausdorff [12] concerns the accessibility of the cardinality of an uncountable set from smaller cardinalities. If the set is not a union of a class of smaller cardinality of sets of smaller cardinality, the question is whether a greatest cardinality exists which is less than the cardinality of the given set.
